Designing a Menswear Line with Quiet Strength
FILLIN HOMME is a project conceived as a menswear line that builds on FILLIN’s aesthetic while introducing a more composed and understated presence. Rather than simply adapting an existing model for men, the project aimed to establish a new contour for the brand by designing the impression of the last, the panel transitions of the upper, the appearance of materials, the balance with the sole, and the overall visual tone as one integrated system.
I was involved from both footwear design and art direction perspectives, moving back and forth between the product’s form itself and the visual design of how it should be seen. To make it work as a menswear product that feels natural in everyday life while retaining lightness and a refined tension, the project was designed holistically—from subtle details of form to styling and the atmosphere of the shoot.
In the design process, I closely adjusted elements such as the proportion between upper and sole, the contour of the toe, the shadows created by different materials, and the perceived center of gravity around the foot. The aim was to retain FILLIN’s minimal character while searching for a calmer and more grounded presence unique to HOMME. On the visual side, styling, composition, and the handling of light were also designed to build not only the appeal of each product, but the atmosphere of the line as a whole.
